Fender® VIBRATO REBUILD KIT
For all vintage blackface and silverface Fender amplifiers with vibrato from the 1963-1981 era (not reissue models).   If you have vibrato problems, changing the vibrato 12AX7 oscillator tube should be the first step (2nd preamp tube away from the power tubes).   If that doesn't solve the problem, changing the components contained in this kit should do the trick.   Contains 3 phase shift ceramic disc capacitors and one optoisolator.   More info here.

CAPACITOR, CERAMIC DISC, RADIAL.
Replacement for the ceramic disc vibrato phase shift capacitors in vintage Blackface and Silverface Fender® amplifiers from the 60s and 70s.   Rated at 500 volts.  Available in .01uF and .02uF (See Options to select value)   Tips:  (1) If you would like to slow down the vibrato speed range (popular for jazz players):  There are three caps in the vibrato phase shift circuit - two .01s and a .02.  You can slow the vibrato speed down by replacing the .01s with .02s (so that all three ceramic disc caps are .02).  (2) Background ticking sound in the vibrato?   Install a .02 cap from ground to the leg of the optoisolator that connects to the 10 Meg resistor (brown/black/blue).

Fender® RCA VIBRATO SHORTING PLUG   Did you know that on vintage Fender® amps (Blackface, Silverface), the reverb will work without a footswitch plugged in, but the vibrato will not?   This handy-dandy little RCA shorting plug will fix that problem, if you do not own or prefer not to use a footswitch on your vintage 60s or 70s Fender® amp.   Just plug this little RCA plug gadget into the vibrato footswitch jack on the back panel, and your vibrato will come alive.    Turn the intensity knob to zero to cut out the vibrato when this plug is inserted.  Note:  Does not apply to Vibro Champ, Princeton, or Princeton Reverb amps.  Inserting this plug turns the vibrato off in those models, removing the plug turns it on.

Pots for Blonde and Brown Series Amps from
1960-1963 (Brownface)
(Not Reissues)
Fender amps from 1960-1963 underwent many design changes, as Leo Fender was in a period of experimentation to achieve the ultimate Fender sound, so it is very difficult to assemble accurate pot kits.   We do offer these individual pots which cover most of the needs of the "brownface" era.    For the model number and version, look on the tube chart in the back of the amp.

Fender® Modification Kits

(Picture for illustrative purposes only - actual kit components will vary from this photo)

FENDER "BLACKFACE" KIT  This kit changes the circuit design of your late 60s or 70s vintage Silverface Fender® Amp to the original "Blackface" amps of the early-to-mid 60s.   Most players agree that the pre-CBS blackface amps sounded much better than the silverface successors designed by the CBS engineers.   With this kit, you can take your amp back to the Leo Fender design.  In addition, you also restore the bias-setting capability of the amp in place of the "balance" control.   These modifications are completely reversible, and no permanent changes to the chassis (such as drilling holes, etc) are required.  The kit includes 9 resistors, 4 capacitors and instructions.   Note:  This kit does NOT apply to the silverface Bronco, Champ, Deluxe Reverb, Princeton Reverb, or VibroChamp.

Part #FBK-1

FENDER BRIGHT PULL SWITCH   Some of the smaller vintage Fender blackface and silverface amps from the 60s and 70s omitted the bright switch ... and by doing so, they do not have the tonal options of their larger big brothers.   This mod kit adds the "Bright Switch" option to original vintage amps like the Champ, Bronco, VibroChamp, Princeton Reverb and Deluxe Reverb from the 60s and 70s.   This pull-switch pot replaces the volume control in these amps, and to engage the bright feature, you just pull out on the knob.   No holes to drill.  The pull-switch pot comes prewired with the bright capacitor.  You just transfer and solder the 3 wires from the old pot to the new pot.   Soldering is required - this is considered an easy modification.  Instructions included.   You will need two of these kits if you wish to equip both channels of a Deluxe Reverb amp.   Note:  Not for the reissue Princeton Reverb or Deluxe Reverb - original vintage amps only.

FENDER VIBRATO PULL SWITCH   Converts the Vibrato Intensity control in many vintage amps to a pull switch intensity control to turn the vibrato on or off.  Comes with a prewired C50K pull-switch pot, and our FSP-100 shorting plug for the vibrato footswitch jack to initialize the vibrato.   May also be used in conjunction with the standard footswitch if you choose.  Pull out the knob for vibrato, push in to kill the vibrato.   You just transfer and solder the 2 wires (brown and yellow) from the old pot to the new pot/switch.   Soldering is required - this is considered an easy modification.  Instructions are found here.   Fits vintage 1960s and 1970s blackface and silverface Bandmaster, Bandmaster Reverb, Deluxe, Deluxe Reverb, Dual Showman Reverb, Pro Amp, Pro Reverb, Super Reverb, Tremolux, Twin Reverb, Vibrolux, Vibrolux Reverb, Vibroverb.   Does NOT fit the following amps:  Bronco, Princeton, Princeton Reverb, Showman Amp, VibroChamp, and ALL blackface or silverface reissue amps.

FENDER "S-L-O-W-E-R  VIBRATO" KIT  This kit changes the circuit design of the vibrato to slow down the slow end of the vibrato speed control considerably, giving a much wider usable speed range.    Fast speed remains virtually unchanged, and the intensity remains the same.   Jazz players especially love the slower vibrato.  The official Fender vibrato "tick cure" is also included in this kit, as listed on a Fender service bulletin from several years ago.   The tick cure is not applicable and does not apply to Bronco, Princeton or VibroChamp circuits.  Kit includes necessary parts and instructions.   Soldering capability is required.

FENDER EASY GAIN BOOST MOD  No drilling!  This pull switch on the vibrato intensity pot gives you a substantial gain boost in the vibrato channel, while also increasing clarity and bass response.   It works by completely removing the vibrato from the circuit.   Replaces the vibrato intensity control with a new pot that has a built-in pull switch.  Pull out the knob for stock Fender sound (with vibrato), push in the knob for gain boost (and no vibrato).   Comes with a prewired C50K pot with pull switch.   You just transfer and solder the 2 wires (brown and yellow) from the old pot to the new pot/switch.   Soldering is required - this is considered an easy modification.   Fits vintage 1960s and 1970s blackface and silverface Bandmaster, Bandmaster Reverb, Deluxe, Deluxe Reverb, Dual Showman Reverb, Pro Amp, Pro Reverb, Super Reverb, Tremolux, Twin Reverb, Vibrolux, Vibrolux Reverb, Vibroverb.   Does NOT fit the following amps:  Bronco, Princeton, Princeton Reverb, Showman Amp, VibroChamp, and ALL blackface or silverface reissue amps.

FENDER TONE STACK BYPASS SWITCH - A250K  A unique modification to most Fender blackface and silverface amps.  This A250K control with pull switch mounts in the bass control position of 60s and 70s blackface and silverface models that do not have a middle control (for amps like the Twin Reverb, Super Reverb and Pro Reverb that do have a middle control in one or both channels, see the FTSL-10 kit)  With the switch pulled out, the tone stack is in place and the amp is stock.   With the switch pushed in, the tone stack is removed completely - the bass, treble pots have no function, and the traditional "mid scoop" of the Fender amp is gone.    The amp becomes much louder with a significant gain boost, more "raw", and has a significant mid boost.   The raw tone has a non-scooped mid similar to the no-tone-stack tweed amps of the 1950s such as the 5E3 Deluxe.  The pull-switch pot comes pre-wired with the 6.8K mid resistor.  Just remove the old bass pot and replace with the FTSL-250.  This mod is considered easy.    For most all blackface and silverface amps from the 60s and 70s with bass and treble controls (no mid control).    Not for the reissue blackface or silverface amps.
